FAQs
What would be a good plan for a college student with limited money?

I would need to find out additional information to make a final decision but If you do not need Maternity coverage then I would recommend the Tonik plans, Smart Sense plans, RightPlan PPO 40, PPO Saver, Select HMO or Lumenos Non-Maternity plans.

What is a PPO Plan?  A Preferred Provider Organization offers a comprehensive health plan to enrolled members.  The member can receive more coverage if they choose a health care provider that is in the network.

What is an HMO Plan? A Health Maintenance Organization offers comprehensive health care to enrolled members and receive referrals for specialists when medically necessary.

What is an HSA?  A Health Savings Account is funded by your pretax contributions.  Your employer or other person can contribute to your HSA on your behalf.  You use your HSA to pay for medical care and prescriptions.

What is a co-pay? A co-pay is when the insured pays a specific amount for out of pocket expenses for health care services such as doctor visits and prescriptive drugs at the time the service is rendered.

What is a deductible? A deductible is the portion of a claim that is not covered by the insurance provider.  Typically, a lower deductible has a higher premium and visa versa.

How much life insurance should I get? The rule of thumb is that it should be between six and eight times your gross income.  Or you can get five times your gross income and include enough for burial, mortgage and debt expenses, college education expenses and any other expenses that you want to cover.  If you cannot afford to purchase a policy that size then you should purchase what you can now and purchase an additonal policy each year until you reach the amount that you need..
